The Avantco 17813512 vacuum breaker is an OEM replacement component for select Avantco commercial refrigeration units. This vacuum breaker prevents the formation of a vacuum inside the cabinet when the cooling system shuts down, protecting the cabinet structure from collapsing inward due to pressure differential. The vacuum breaker maintains safe operating conditions during system idle periods.
Vacuum breakers fail due to mechanical sticking from moisture or debris, thermal cycling causing seal degradation, corrosion from salt and humidity exposure in commercial environments, or cracking of the plastic or metal body. Symptoms of vacuum breaker failure include difficulty opening the cabinet door due to excessive vacuum, cabinet walls appearing to be sucked inward, or audible hissing when doors are opened. A non-functional vacuum breaker allows dangerous internal pressure differentials to develop, making the cabinet difficult or impossible to open and potentially damaging the cabinet structure.
Installation of the Avantco 17813512 vacuum breaker should be performed by a qualified refrigeration technician. The technician will locate the vacuum breaker port on the cabinet, remove the old breaker by unscrewing or unbolting it, clean the port area, install the new vacuum breaker with proper thread sealant if required, and test operation by monitoring for proper air intake when the system shuts down.
