PRODUCT OVERVIEW
17816785HC Defrost Element
Details
The Avantco 17816785HC Defrost Element is an OEM-grade replacement heater for Avantco high-capacity commercial refrigeration systems. This component is positioned directly within the evaporator coil where it provides concentrated heat to dissolve frost and ice during defrost operations, maintaining cooling efficiency and system reliability.
Defrost element failure occurs as the internal heating wire oxidizes, loses electrical continuity, or the thermal protection insulation deteriorates. When an element fails, frost cannot be removed during defrost cycles, rapidly accumulating on the coil surface and blocking airflow. This condition causes compressor strain, temperature control loss, and significant energy waste as the system attempts to maintain cooling through increasingly blocked heat exchange surfaces.
Licensed refrigeration technicians must perform installation to safely handle electrical components and access the sealed coil assembly. The technician will disconnect power, remove fasteners and electrical connections from the failed element, install the new element with proper alignment and wire termination, and verify continuity before restoring system power. Preventive maintenance should include quarterly inspection for visual signs of corrosion or cracks and annual testing of defrost element resistance to predict remaining service life.
