This grater shredder attachment is an aftermarket alternative to the Hobart VS9 shredder for mixers, food cutters and power drives with a standard #12 attachment hub. It mounts to the hub and turns a 9 inch shredder or grater plate behind a hopper, so product fed through the chute and pressed with the pusher plate is shredded or grated into a pan below. The housing is heavy-gauge polished aluminum with precision-machined, hardened shafts, and the unit is sold complete with the housing, door, pusher plate, disk holder and a 3/16 inch shredder plate. It is NSF listed and weighs about 21 pounds.
In a busy kitchen a shredder attachment takes daily abuse: shafts and bushings wear, housings crack or get dented, and doors and disk holders get lost or damaged in the dish room. A worn or damaged attachment shreds unevenly, binds or wobbles on the hub, and can put extra load on the mixer drive. Replacing a tired attachment, or adding a second one, keeps cheese and vegetable prep fast and consistent without tying up a larger food processor.
To install, turn the mixer or power drive off and unplug it, loosen the hub thumb screw, and slide the attachment shaft into the #12 hub until it seats, then tighten the thumb screw. Fit the disk holder and the plate you need, close the door, and feed product through the hopper using the pusher plate, never your hands. After use, take the unit apart and hand wash it in warm soapy water, rinse and dry it fully; do not put it in a dishwasher, which can damage the aluminum and seize the shaft.
