This vegetable slicer attachment is an aftermarket alternative to the Hobart VS9 slicer for mixers, choppers and power drives with a standard #12 attachment hub. It mounts to the hub and spins a stainless steel “S” knife behind a hopper, so product fed through the chute and pressed down with the pusher plate is cut into even slices that drop into a pan below; an adjusting knob sets the slice thickness. The housing is heavy-gauge polished aluminum with precision-machined, hardened shafts, and the unit comes complete with the housing, door, pusher plate and slicer knife assembly. It is NSF approved and weighs about 23 pounds.
Slicer attachments see hard daily use: knife edges dull and nick, shafts and bushings wear, and doors, pushers and housings get dented or cracked in the dish room. A dull knife crushes and tears produce instead of slicing it cleanly, and a worn attachment can wobble or bind on the hub and put extra load on the mixer drive. Replacing a worn slicer, or adding a dedicated one, keeps vegetable prep fast and consistent.
To install, turn the mixer or power drive off and unplug it, loosen the hub thumb screw, slide the attachment shaft into the #12 hub until it seats, and tighten the thumb screw. Set the slice thickness with the adjusting knob, close the door, and feed product through the hopper using the pusher plate, never your hands. After use, take the unit apart and hand wash it in warm soapy water, then rinse and dry it fully; do not put it in a dishwasher, which can damage the aluminum and seize the shaft.
