The Amerex B402 is a 5 lb ABC dry chemical fire extinguisher designed for versatile, portable fire protection across a wide range of Class A, B, and C hazards. With a UL rating of 3A:40B:C, it handles ordinary combustibles like wood, paper, and cloth; flammable liquids such as gasoline, oil, and grease; and energized electrical equipment — making it one of the most practical all-purpose extinguishers for commercial kitchens, offices, vehicles, and light industrial spaces. Its compact footprint and manageable weight make it easy to mount in tight spaces and handle quickly in an emergency, while still delivering a meaningful 14-second discharge over an effective range of 12 to 18 feet.
The B402 uses a specially fluidized and siliconized monoammonium phosphate dry chemical agent that tackles different fire classes through distinct mechanisms. On Class A fires, the agent melts at approximately 350°F and forms a coating over the burning surface, chemically insulating it and cutting off the combustion process. On Class B fires, it smothers the flame and breaks the chemical chain reaction that sustains combustion. On Class C fires, the dry chemical agent is non-conductive, meaning it will not carry electrical current back to the operator — a critical safety characteristic when dealing with live equipment. The anodized aluminum valve provides durability and corrosion resistance across the full operating temperature range of -65°F to 120°F.
Built by Amerex to meet strict UL listing requirements, the B402 features a drawn steel cylinder with stored pressure design, a large loop pull pin for fast deployment, and a high-gloss polyester powder coat finish for long-term durability.
