PRODUCT OVERVIEW
- Class D sodium chloride dry powder fire extinguisher designed specifically for flammable metal fires involving magnesium, sodium, potassium, sodium-potassium alloys, zirconium, uranium, titanium, and powdered aluminum
- Contains 30 lbs of specially blended sodium chloride agent that cakes and forms a heat-dissipating crust to smother burning metal and exclude oxygen
- Features a soft-flow extension applicator that allows the operator to apply agent from a safe distance, away from extreme heat and toxic fumes; discharge time of 24 seconds with a 3–6 foot range

Details
The Amerex B570 is a 30 lb Class D dry powder fire extinguisher engineered for one of the most specialized and dangerous fire hazards in industrial and laboratory environments — burning metals. Unlike standard ABC extinguishers, Class D fires require a purpose-built agent, and the B570 uses a specially blended sodium chloride based dry powder that responds to the intense heat of a metal fire by caking and forming a solid crust over the burning material. This crust works to exclude air and draw heat away from the fire, smothering combustion in a way that water or conventional dry chemical agents cannot. At 30 lbs of agent and a 24-second discharge time, it delivers meaningful coverage for serious metal fire incidents.
The B570 is rated effective on fires involving magnesium, sodium, potassium, and sodium-potassium alloys, and has also demonstrated control on zirconium, uranium, titanium, and powdered aluminum fires — materials commonly found in metalworking shops, chemical laboratories, aerospace facilities, and manufacturing plants. A key design feature is the soft-flow extension applicator, which allows the operator to gently lay the powder over the burning metal from a safe distance without scattering the material or intensifying the fire — a critical advantage when dealing with reactive metals that can behave unpredictably under pressure. The extension is removable when a straight stream is needed for greater range.
Built to Amerex's high manufacturing standards, the B570 features a chrome-plated brass valve, a drawn steel cylinder with stored pressure design, and operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -40°F to 120°F. It is FM Approved, includes QR-coded bilingual labels, and comes backed by a 6-year manufacturer warranty — reflecting the quality and durability expected from a unit designed for critical hazard environments. A wall mounting bracket is included, and the unit is fully rechargeable by a certified fire equipment service professional, ensuring it remains ready for long-term service.
