The Pitco Armored Thermopile is a direct replacement thermopile for Pitco commercial gas fryers, constructed with a protective metal armor jacket over the lead wires to withstand the extreme heat, grease, and mechanical stress present in a commercial fryer's burner compartment. It generates the millivolt signal that keeps the main gas valve's holding coil energized after pilot ignition, allowing uninterrupted gas flow to the main burner during the cooking session. Using the correct armored thermopile ensures the proper output rating, lead length, and terminal configuration for reliable operation in the specific Pitco model.

Over time, the thermoelectric elements within the thermopile oxidize and lose output voltage, and the armor sheathing can crack or separate at bends, leaving the internal lead wires exposed to heat and grease that accelerates their degradation. Low thermopile output is a primary cause of pilot outages and main burner dropouts in commercial gas fryers and is often the root cause of intermittent heating failures that are difficult to diagnose without proper test equipment.
