    The Avantco 177B1H2THRMC Thermocouple is an OEM replacement component for Avantco gas-powered food service equipment including fryers, griddles, and broilers. A thermocouple is a temperature-sensing device consisting of two different metals that generate a small electrical voltage when exposed to heat. In gas cooking equipment, the thermocouple is positioned in the pilot flame and generates voltage that powers the safety shutoff solenoid, allowing gas flow to the main burner. The thermocouple is a critical safety component.

    Thermocouples require replacement when they fail to generate adequate voltage, develop cracks or corrosion, lose contact with the pilot flame, or become damaged. A failed thermocouple results in inadequate voltage to the safety solenoid, preventing the gas valve from opening or causing it to close unexpectedly. Without proper thermocouple voltage, the gas equipment becomes inoperable and represents a potential safety hazard.

    Installation of the 177B1H2THRMC requires the equipment to be powered down and the gas supply isolated. The old thermocouple is typically unsoldered from its electrical connections and unbolted or pressed out of the pilot flame assembly. The new thermocouple is positioned in the direct path of the pilot flame and secured with fasteners or by press-fitting. Electrical connections are restored using proper soldering techniques.
