The Avantco 17813517 Replacement Defrost Element is an OEM component for Avantco commercial refrigeration equipment that provides heat to melt ice buildup on the evaporator coil during periodic defrost cycles. This element is essential for maintaining airflow through the coil and preventing complete icing that would shut down the cooling system.
A failed defrost element prevents ice from melting during the defrost cycle, causing ice to accumulate and eventually block airflow entirely. When airflow is completely blocked, cabinet temperature rises rapidly and the compressor overworks in an attempt to maintain cooling. Equipment becomes inoperable until the defrost element is replaced.
The 17813517 is mounted directly on or adjacent to the evaporator coil and connects to electrical terminals controlled by a timer circuit. Installation requires accessing the evaporator assembly, disconnecting the old element, and installing the new component with secure electrical connections.
