Manitowoc ice machine cleaner is a citric acid-based descaling solution formulated to dissolve mineral scale, lime deposits, and calcium buildup that accumulate on the evaporator plate, water distribution system, sump trough, and float chamber of Manitowoc commercial ice machines. The formula is nickel-safe, making it compatible with the nickel-plated evaporator surfaces used in Manitowoc cube ice machines — aggressive cleaners can damage the plating and shorten evaporator service life. Manitowoc recommends a full cleaning cycle every 6 months, or more frequently in areas with hard water or high mineral content.
Scale buildup on the evaporator acts as thermal insulation between the refrigerant and the water being frozen, requiring progressively longer freeze cycles to produce the same quantity of ice and reducing the machine's daily output rating. Significant scale accumulation can also cause ice to stick during harvest, increasing mechanical stress on the harvest system and leading to incomplete harvests and potential evaporator surface damage. Using the correct Manitowoc cleaner at proper intervals is one of the most important preventive maintenance practices for sustaining production efficiency and extending the operational life of the ice machine's water-side components.
