The Pitco Contactor is a direct replacement heavy-duty electrical switching device for Pitco commercial electric fryers. It is used to switch the high-current supply to the fryer's heating elements on and off under control of the temperature regulation and safety circuit. Using the correct contactor ensures the proper contact current rating, coil voltage, number of poles, and mounting style for the specific Pitco electric fryer model.
Over time, the main contacts in a fryer contactor erode from the high-current arcing that occurs at every switching cycle, eventually leading to contact welding — which keeps the elements permanently on — or contact erosion to the point of an open circuit, which prevents heating. Both failures disrupt food production and, in the case of welded contacts, pose a safety hazard. Replacing the contactor with a compatible part restores safe, reliable control of the heating element circuit.
The contactor mounts in the fryer's electrical cabinet on a DIN rail or with screws and connects via screw-clamp or bolt-type terminals. It is recommended to de-energize and lock out all power before replacing the contactor and to inspect the terminal screws for heat discoloration after installation.
