Details

The Doyon ELC495 is a genuine OEM Telemecanique reversing contactor rated for 2 horsepower motor applications, designed for Doyon baking equipment that requires bidirectional motor control. Reversing contactors are used in applications where a motor must be able to run in both forward and reverse directions, such as dough mixer bowl rotation or dough sheeter roller drives that require reverse operation for clearing jams or automating two-pass sheeting sequences.

A reversing contactor assembly consists of two mechanically and electrically interlocked contactors — a forward contactor and a reverse contactor — that cannot be energized simultaneously. When the forward contactor closes, it connects the motor to the power supply in one phase sequence for forward rotation. When the reverse contactor closes, it swaps two of the motor's phase connections to reverse the rotation direction. The interlock prevents both contactors from closing at the same time, which would cause a phase-to-phase short circuit.

Signs that the reversing contactor requires replacement include the motor failing to run in one or both directions despite correct control signals, contactor contacts welding together (motor runs continuously in one direction regardless of control input), audible chattering from the contactor coils, or burn marks and excessive contact erosion visible on inspection. Interlock failure is a particularly hazardous condition and should be addressed immediately.

Replacement should be performed by a qualified electrician. The power is de-energized, contacts are inspected to confirm welding has not caused a live condition, and the old contactor assembly is removed. The new ELC495 is wired per the equipment's wiring diagram with correct interlock connections. Motor rotation direction in both the forward and reverse positions should be verified before the equipment is returned to production.

The genuine Doyon ELC495 Telemecanique reversing contactor provides the 2 HP rated contacts, coil voltage, and interlocking required for bidirectional motor control in compatible Doyon equipment, ensuring safe, reliable directional switching throughout the contactor's service life.
