The ELS893 solenoid valve opens when the control system energizes the 24VDC coil to fill the steam pan or water system when steam production is required. The 24VDC operating voltage places this valve in the low-voltage portion of the control system, isolating the water supply actuation from the high-voltage power circuits for improved control system safety. When the coil is de-energized, the valve spring-returns to the closed position, shutting off water flow immediately.
Failure signs for the 24VDC solenoid valve are the same as for other solenoid valves: no water delivery to the steam pan when the controller calls for fill (coil failure or valve body seized), continuous water fill without control system command (valve stuck open or seat damaged), water leaking at the valve body connections, or audible coil energization without valve actuation. Testing the coil with a DC voltmeter confirms whether 24VDC is being supplied when the valve should open.
Replacement should be performed by a qualified technician. The water supply is shut off and the line depressurized before removing the old valve. The new ELS893 is installed with correct thread sealant on pipe connections. After installation, all connections are checked for leaks, and the valve is tested through several fill cycles before the oven is returned to service.
