The Doyon FMF745 is a genuine OEM planetary satellite shaft designed for Doyon BTF series spiral mixers. In a planetary mixer drive system, the satellite shaft carries the secondary (satellite) gear that orbits the central sun gear, transmitting the motor's power through the planetary gear assembly to produce the combined orbital and rotational motion of the mixing tool that is characteristic of planetary mixer operation.

The planetary satellite shaft must withstand the cyclic bending and torsional loads imposed on it as the satellite gear orbits the sun gear under the full mixing load of the BTF mixer. Shaft integrity is critical not only for power transmission but also for the geometric accuracy of the planetary gear mesh — any shaft deflection or wear at the bearing journals degrades the gear tooth contact pattern, accelerating gear wear and reducing the accuracy of the mixing tool's orbital path through the bowl.

Signs that the satellite shaft requires replacement include audible noise from the planetary gear assembly during mixing, increased vibration in the mixer head, visible scoring or wear on the shaft journal surfaces when the mixer is disassembled for inspection, or metal particles in the mixer's gearbox oil indicating wear debris from the planetary assembly. Shaft failure under overload conditions can also cause sudden loss of drive to the mixing tool.

Replacement should be performed by a qualified technician following the BTF mixer's planetary assembly disassembly procedure. The planetary assembly is accessed through the mixer head top cover, the satellite shaft is removed along with its bearings and gear, and the new FMF745 is installed with the appropriate bearings and gear mesh clearances set per the service manual specifications.
