The Pitco Magnetic Reed/Drain Valve Interlock Switch is a direct replacement safety interlock switch for Pitco commercial fryers. It uses a magnetically actuated reed contact to detect the position of the drain valve and prevent the fryer from operating when the drain is open, protecting against accidental oil drainage during cooking. Using the correct switch ensures compatibility with the Pitco drain valve interlock circuit and the correct magnetic sensitivity and contact rating.
Over time, reed switch contacts can become contaminated with grease vapor deposits, the glass envelope can crack from vibration or impact, or the magnetic sensitivity can shift from prolonged heat exposure, causing the switch to provide false interlock signals or to fail to detect drain valve position accurately. These failures can result in nuisance shutdowns when the drain is properly closed or, more seriously, failure to shut down the fryer when the drain is open. Replacing the switch restores accurate, reliable drain valve position sensing.
The switch mounts near the drain valve in a fixed position aligned with the valve's proximity actuator magnet and connects to the interlock circuit via its wiring leads. It is recommended to test the interlock by opening the drain valve and confirming that the fryer shuts down after every switch replacement. Pairing this replacement with an inspection of the drain valve and its seals will ensure that both the mechanical and electrical components of the drain safety system are in proper working order.
