The Pitco Flame Sensor is a direct replacement flame detection component for Pitco commercial gas fryers. It monitors the presence of a flame at the burner and sends a signal to the ignition control module to confirm successful ignition or to initiate lockout if no flame is detected within the trial-for-ignition period. Using the correct flame sensor ensures compatibility with the Pitco ignition control system and reliable flame detection performance.
Over time, flame sensors can become contaminated with oxidation, grease deposits, or ceramic cracking, reducing their ability to accurately detect or sustain a flame signal, which causes the ignition module to shut down the gas valve and enter a safety lockout even when the burner is lit. Frequent nuisance lockouts disrupt food service and, if left unaddressed, can indicate a deteriorating sensor that may eventually fail to detect a genuine flame-out condition. Replacing the sensor with a compatible part restores accurate flame detection and eliminates false lockouts caused by a degraded sensor.
Installation involves removing the old sensor from its mounting bracket in the burner area and connecting the new sensor's lead to the ignition module. It is recommended to clean the sensor mounting area of grease and carbon deposits before installing the replacement. Pairing flame sensor replacement with a check of the ignition cable, spark electrode, and ignition module output will confirm that the entire ignition and flame-detection system is operating reliably.
