Operating at 120 volts, this solenoid valve controls the flow of water into the ice-making system, opening on signal from the control board to allow water to fill the freeze chamber and closing to halt flow at the appropriate stage of the ice production cycle. Proper valve operation is essential for consistent ice production and correct water volume management.

Fill solenoid valves in commercial ice machines are subjected to continuous electrical cycling, water pressure, and mineral-laden water that gradually deposits scale on the valve seat, screen, and internal components. Scale buildup restricts flow, causing ice production shortfalls or slow fill cycles; worn coils or corroded contacts lead to valve failures where the valve either sticks open — flooding the sump — or fails to open, halting ice production entirely. Technicians typically identify valve failure through diagnostic codes, unusually long fill times, water overflow, or complete cessation of ice production.
