The Gaylord Water Check Valve, Lead-Free (Part# 10196) is a genuine replacement check valve for the water supply line feeding a Gaylord ventilator's automatic wash-down and fire suppression water system. The valve allows water to flow in a single direction toward the wash-down manifold while blocking any reverse flow back into the building's potable water line, a critical backflow-prevention function for code compliance.
The valve's internal seat and seal see constant exposure to water pressure cycling every time the wash-down system runs, along with mineral buildup from hard water over time. A worn or fouled check valve can begin to weep or leak continuously, fail to seal fully and allow backflow, or seize shut and starve the wash-down system of water -- any of which can trigger a failed inspection or leave the hood's fire protection water supply unreliable.
This replacement should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified fire suppression technician. Shut off the water supply to the ventilator's wash-down line and relieve line pressure before disconnecting the fittings on either side of the old valve, noting the flow-direction arrow stamped on the valve body. Remove the failed valve, install the new lead-free valve in the same orientation, and reconnect the fittings with fresh thread sealant or tape. Restore water supply and run a test wash cycle, checking both connections for leaks and confirming normal flow before closing out the repair.
