The Gaylord Motor Coil, 115V (Part# 10232) is a genuine replacement solenoid coil for the damper actuator motor used on Gaylord commercial kitchen ventilators. The coil energizes to drive the actuator that opens and closes the ventilator's inlet damper -- closing it during the wash-down cycle and opening it when the exhaust fan is started, so the hood reaches full exhaust capacity only when the fan is actually running.

The coil operates on a duty cycle tied directly to how often the ventilator switches between fan-on and wash modes, and the heat generated by continuous or frequent energizing can break down the winding insulation over years of service. A failing coil typically shows up as a damper actuator that hums but does not move, runs hot to the touch, or trips a breaker/fuse on the control circuit -- and until it is replaced, the damper can get stuck in the wrong position, either starving the exhaust fan of airflow or leaving the duct open during wash-down.

Replacement should be performed by a qualified electrician or ventilation technician. Lock out and de-energize the control cabinet at the breaker, then access the damper actuator and disconnect the coil leads, noting their terminal positions. Remove the failed coil from the actuator housing and install the new 115V coil, reconnecting the leads to match the original wiring. Restore power and cycle the ventilator through fan-start and wash modes to confirm the damper actuator responds correctly in both directions before returning the unit to service.
