The Gaylord Push Button Test Switch (Part# 10238) is a genuine replacement control switch for Gaylord ventilator and fire suppression control cabinets. The switch lets kitchen staff or a technician run a functional test of the fan or fire suppression circuit on demand, confirming the system responds correctly without triggering a full fire suppression discharge or unplanned system event.
As a switch that is pressed regularly during routine safety checks, its internal contacts wear with repeated actuation, and its housing is exposed to the same grease and moisture as the rest of the control panel. A worn test switch may fail to register a press at all, stick in the depressed position, or intermittently trip the circuit it is meant to test -- undermining the very safety check the switch exists to perform, which is a serious concern on a fire suppression control cabinet.
Replacement should be performed by a qualified technician familiar with the ventilator's fire suppression wiring. De-energize the control cabinet and confirm zero voltage before opening the enclosure, then disconnect the wiring from the failed switch, noting terminal positions. Remove the old switch from the panel and install the new push button test switch in the same location, reconnecting wiring to match the original configuration.
