Details
The Gaylord Diaphragm (Part# 10240) is a genuine replacement diaphragm for the water valve and pressure-sensing components used in Gaylord ventilator wash-down and fire suppression systems. The diaphragm flexes in response to water pressure, either regulating flow through a valve or triggering a pressure switch, depending on where it is installed in the system.
Because the diaphragm is a flexible membrane under constant pressure cycling every time water moves through the system, the material naturally hardens and cracks with age and repeated flexing. A failing diaphragm typically causes a valve that will not fully open or close, a pressure switch that does not trip reliably, or visible water seepage past the diaphragm seal -- any of which can compromise the wash-down cycle or the system's ability to confirm water flow during a fire suppression event.
Replacement should be performed by a qualified fire suppression technician or licensed plumber. Shut off the water supply and relieve pressure in the line before opening the valve or switch housing that contains the diaphragm. Remove the fasteners securing the housing cover, lift out the old diaphragm, and install the new one, seating it evenly against the housing to ensure a proper seal. Reassemble the housing, restore water supply, and test for leaks and correct valve or switch function before closing out the job.
