The Glass Fuse (Part# 9092-1) is a Southbend-compatible replacement sight glass or gauge glass component for use in Southbend commercial steamers and steam-jacketed kettles. Sight glasses and gauge glass assemblies provide a visual indication of water level inside a boiler, kettle jacket, or steam generator, allowing operators to confirm proper water level at a glance.
The glass tube or window is mounted between upper and lower valve fittings connected to the vessel, so the liquid level visible in the glass matches the actual level inside the pressure vessel. Because this component is under pressure and provides a critical safety reference, it must be rated for the system's operating pressure and installed with intact seals.
A cracked, clouded, or leaking gauge glass compromises the operator's ability to verify safe water level and should be treated as an immediate concern, particularly on pressurized steam equipment.
