Details

The Pitco Heavy Duty Thermocouple is a direct replacement thermocouple for Pitco commercial gas fryers equipped with standing pilot systems that use a single-junction thermocouple to generate the safety signal that holds the gas valve open. Constructed with a robust, heavy-gauge sheath and tip designed for long-term immersion in high-temperature pilot flames, it produces the millivolt output required to keep the gas valve's thermocouple seat energized and prevent gas from flowing when no flame is present. Using the correct heavy duty thermocouple ensures the proper tip length, lead length, and connection fitting for the specific Pitco pilot assembly and gas valve combination.

Over time, thermocouple tips oxidize, junctions degrade, and lead sheathing can crack from thermal cycling and vibration, all of which reduce millivolt output below the gas valve's minimum holding threshold and cause the pilot to go out or the main burner to fail to stay lit. The heavy-duty construction of this thermocouple provides greater resistance to tip oxidation and lead fatigue than standard thermocouples, extending service intervals in the demanding environment of a commercial fryer. Replacing the worn component with the Pitco-compatible heavy duty thermocouple restores full output voltage and dependable flame-sensing function.

Replacement involves threading the new thermocouple tip into the pilot assembly bracket, routing the lead carefully away from high-heat zones, and tightening the connection at the gas valve to the specification noted in the service manual. It is recommended to measure output voltage with a millivolt meter after installation to confirm the thermocouple meets the gas valve's holding specification before returning the fryer to service. Pairing the new thermocouple with a thorough cleaning of the pilot burner orifice and a flame alignment check ensures optimal pilot performance.
