Details
This 29 tooth worm gear is a replacement for Hobart part number 00-070034 on Hobart D300 30 quart planetary mixers. It sits in the transmission, where it meshes with the motor worm and turns the drive power from the motor into the slower, high-torque rotation that drives the gear train and the agitator. It is made of bronze, about 3 inches across, and is the 60 Hz version.
Because the bronze gear is softer than the steel worm it runs against, it is designed to be the part that wears. Over time, low or old gear lubricant, overloading the mixer with stiff dough, or shifting speeds while the mixer is running wears the teeth thin or strips them. A worn worm gear shows up as grinding or knocking noise, slipping under load, or an agitator that stops while the motor keeps running. Replacing the gear restores full drive and keeps a stripped gear from damaging the worm, shaft and bearings.
Replacing a worm gear means opening the transmission, so we recommend having a qualified service technician do the work. Disconnect power, drain the gear case, remove the worm gear shaft and press the old gear off, then fit the new gear with its key, check the worm and bearings for wear, reassemble, and refill with the correct Hobart-spec gear lubricant. Shift speeds only with the mixer stopped to protect the new gear. This worm gear fits Hobart D300. Confirm your model before ordering.
