Details
This worm gear is a replacement for Hobart part number 00-291221 on Hobart 12, 20 and 30 quart planetary mixers, including the A120, A200, AS200, D300 and Legacy HL120 and HL200. It is the 60 cycle (60 Hz) version with a 5 thread worm and works with the worm wheel in the transmission to turn the motor’s fast rotation into slower, high-torque drive for the gear train and agitator. It is listed by Alfa as steel and measures about 3 inches long.
Worm drives run under heavy sliding load, so the worm and the wheel it drives wear together. Running with low or broken-down gear lubricant, mixing stiff dough at high speed, or shifting gears while the mixer is running speeds up that wear. A worn worm gear causes grinding or humming noise, heat in the gear case, and slipping or loss of drive under load. Replacing a worn worm, and checking the worm wheel at the same time, restores smooth drive and protects the rest of the transmission.
Replacing the worm means opening the transmission, so we recommend having a qualified service technician do the work. Disconnect power, drain the gear case, remove the old worm, inspect the worm wheel, bushing and bearings for wear, install the new worm, reassemble, and refill with the correct Hobart-spec gear lubricant. Make sure you order the 60 cycle part for 60 Hz power. This worm gear fits Hobart A120, A200, AS200, D300, HL120 and HL200. Confirm your model before ordering.
