This ball bearing is a compatible replacement for Hobart part number BB-009-45, used as the lower agitator shaft bearing in the Hobart V1401 series 140 qt. floor mixers. The agitator shaft in a commercial floor mixer runs through two bearings — an upper and a lower — that together support the shaft against the radial and axial forces generated during mixing. The BB-009-45 occupies the lower (bottom) position of this shaft assembly, while the BB-021-40 serves as the upper bearing. Both bearings work as a set and typically warrant inspection at the same time, as wear on one often indicates similar wear on the other.
The lower agitator shaft bearing takes on significant load during heavy-duty mixing operations, particularly with dense bread doughs and batters that place high demands on the shaft and transmission. Signs of a failing lower bearing include unusual noise from the mixing head during operation, vibration at the bowl hub, or visible lateral play in the agitator shaft when tested by hand with the machine off.
