The reed switch normally open (part number 5930-002-36-80) is an OEM replacement magnetic sensor component designed for Jackson undercounter dishwashers, door-type dishwashers, glass washers, and pot & pan washers. This low-wattage (100W rated) magnetic reed switch detects presence of a magnet to monitor equipment states such as lid position, pump operation, or chemical tank status, providing contactless switching that eliminates mechanical wear and enables reliable operation. The normally open configuration keeps the circuit open until magnetic activation.
Magnetic reed switches can fail due to seal degradation allowing moisture intrusion into the glass switch tube, magnet loss or displacement from the actuator, or internal contact corrosion in the protected environment. Failure symptoms include switches that fail to activate even when the magnet is present, switches that remain activated when the magnet is removed, or intermittent switching. A failed reed switch can prevent proper equipment status detection, disable safety interlocks, or cause equipment to operate improperly based on incorrect state information.
Installation requires positioning the switch in close proximity to the actuating magnet, typically within 0.5 inches.
