Details

The NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistor is a precision temperature sensor used in Manitowoc ice machines to monitor refrigerant suction temperatures, water temperatures, or ambient air conditions and provide this data as inputs to the control board's cycle management logic. As temperature changes, the thermistor's electrical resistance changes in a precisely characterized manner that allows the control board to calculate accurate temperature values. The IP68 waterproof rating ensures reliable operation in the continuously wet environment around the ice machine's refrigeration and water-side components.

A failed or out-of-tolerance thermistor causes the control board to receive incorrect temperature readings, resulting in harvest cycles that trigger too early or too late, extended or shortened freeze cycle times, thermistor fault codes, or ice production irregularities. A degraded sensor can appear functional on a simple continuity test while providing temperature readings that are significantly off-specification.
