Details

The evaporator assembly is the primary ice-forming component of the Manitowoc commercial ice machine, where circulating refrigerant absorbs heat from the recirculating water supply to freeze individual cubes in precisely shaped cells across the evaporator surface. Manitowoc evaporators feature nickel-plated ice-forming cells that promote clean ice release during the hot gas harvest cycle while resisting corrosion and minimizing mineral scale adhesion. The evaporator must maintain leak-free refrigerant integrity throughout its service life in a continuously wet, temperature-cycling environment.

Evaporator replacement is required when the ice-forming surface is pitted, corroded, or cracked due to chemical damage, freeze-up events, mechanical impact, or general material degradation — all of which prevent proper ice formation and release during harvest. A damaged evaporator may produce ice that sticks during harvest, ice with visible pitting or off-color appearance, or may develop refrigerant leaks at damaged surface areas. This OEM replacement evaporator restores the machine's ice production to original factory specifications and must be installed by a qualified refrigeration technician with valid EPA refrigerant handling certification.
