The Pressure Regulator (Part# 1178815) is a Southbend-compatible replacement gas pressure regulator for use in Southbend commercial ranges, griddles, broilers, and gas cooking equipment. The pressure regulator reduces and stabilizes incoming gas line pressure to the specific working pressure required by the equipment's burners and pilot system.
A diaphragm inside the regulator senses downstream pressure and modulates gas flow to hold that pressure within a narrow band regardless of fluctuations in supply pressure or demand from other appliances on the same line. Stable regulated pressure is what allows burners to produce a consistent, properly sized flame across the full range of equipment operation.
A failing regulator typically presents as burner flames that are unusually large or small, flame patterns that surge or fluctuate, difficulty maintaining a pilot flame, or inconsistent temperature performance traceable to unstable gas pressure rather than a burner or control fault. A ruptured diaphragm can also allow gas to vent through the regulator's breather, which is a safety hazard.
