The Pitco Relay is a direct replacement electromechanical switching device for Pitco commercial fryers. It uses a low-current control signal to switch a higher-current load circuit — such as a heating element contactor coil, solenoid valve, or pump motor — on and off as directed by the fryer's control system. Using the correct relay ensures the proper coil voltage, contact rating, mounting style, and pin configuration for the specific control circuit.
Over time, relay contacts can become pitted, welded, or oxidized from the arcing that occurs during high-current switching, while the coil can fail open or short from heat and electrical stress, causing the relay to either remain permanently open or closed regardless of the control signal. A failed relay can prevent a critical fryer function from activating or, in the case of welded contacts, cause that function to run continuously. Replacing the relay with a compatible part restores reliable, controlled switching.
Relays are typically mounted on a DIN rail or socket, allowing quick swap-out after power is disconnected. It is recommended to test relay coil resistance and contact continuity before condemning the part, and to replace it immediately if either measurement is out of specification.
