This component is part of the gas burner or pilot ignition system on Southbend commercial ranges and cooking equipment, directing or metering the gas flow that produces the flame the equipment relies on.

Direct exposure to flame and combustion byproducts gradually causes carbon buildup, corrosion, or warping in burner and pilot components, leading to a weak or uneven flame, hard starting, or a pilot that will not hold.

A qualified gas technician should shut off supply and allow the unit to cool, then disconnect the old component from the gas train, noting its orientation.
