PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Thermocouple for Pitco Part# P8900-47

Details
The Pitco Thermocouple is a direct replacement safety thermocouple for Pitco commercial gas fryers. It generates a small millivolt electrical signal from the heat of the pilot flame, which is used by the gas valve's safety circuit to hold the main gas valve open as long as the pilot is lit, and to close the valve if the pilot extinguishes. Using the correct thermocouple ensures the proper tip type, lead length, and connection fitting for the specific Pitco gas valve and fryer model.
Over time, thermocouples degrade as the dissimilar metal junctions at the tip oxidize and the base metal alloys change composition from prolonged heat exposure, causing the millivolt output to fall below the gas valve's minimum holding threshold and resulting in the fryer shutting off even when the pilot flame is burning correctly. A weak or failed thermocouple is one of the most common causes of pilot hold-in failures on gas fryers. Replacing the thermocouple with a compatible part restores the correct millivolt output and reliable pilot safety function.
The thermocouple tip is positioned in the pilot flame, and the connection nut is threaded into the gas valve's thermocouple port. It is recommended to verify millivolt output with a meter after installation and compare the reading to the gas valve's minimum specification. Pairing thermocouple replacement with a pilot burner cleaning and a gas valve test will confirm that the complete pilot safety circuit is holding the gas valve open reliably.
